ALANYA, a small town with a pictorial port in the midst of banana and lemon gardens, is surrounded by a fortress from the Seldschuk times which rises on a rocky peninsula. The city was founded in the 4th century before Christ and was a popular Korsarennest during the roman times. In the year 1219 after Christ the city was conquered by Sultan Aladdin Keykubat. The "Red Tower", an octagonal awake tower, which served as an arsenal to the Sultan’s fleet, comes likewise from this time. Today a small museum relating to crafts is in the red tower. In many turns the road leads up to the citadel, a cross knight castle from the 13th century. Within the outside range of the fortress, which is surrounded by a double wall from the land side, are in different districts remnants of the seldschuken city, Mosques, a Caravanserai and a considered bazaar. Within the second wall range a cistern and the remnants of a Byzantine cathedral are on the summit of the rock. At the north foot of the before of mountains is the Damlatas-grotte. It reaches a height of 15 meters and has very beautiful stalactite. A boat travel past at the red tower, the old seldschuken dockyard, the pirate and Phosphorgrotte up to the bath of the Kleopatra is the conclusion of this trip.
