The Championship Course

  • HOLE 1 (5 PAR, 490 METRES) ;
    A good long par 5 sets you off on your journey round the National. A typical tree lined fairway invites an accurate second shot, and an attractive approach to a broad but well contoured green.
  • HOLE 2 (3 PAR, 141 METRES) ;
    Water, water everywhere is the setting of this picturesque short hole. Being almost totally surrounded by water a precise shot is called for to a receptive geren.
  • Hole 3 (4 par, 376 metres) ;
    A drive over a low ridge and place between two prominent pines set up a second shot to a well protected green. The unusual nature of the prevaling winds on the Natural will affect your club section. Part of the day the wind will be at your back, for the remainder it will be in your face
  • HOLE 4 ( 5 Par,512 metres) ;
    Lined on the right with pine trees and water all the way along the left, this is a hole where it is a must to stay on the fairway. A typical undulating links fairway creates interest on this long par 5. The ideal line is just left of the first right-hand mound, with your second parallel to the mounds setting up a fine position to a narrow green.
  • HOLE 5 (3 Par 150 metres) ;
    This is a hole, which typifies the character of the National.
    The green is set into the lower slopes of a sand ridge, surrounded by magnifient stone pine trees. Whilst there is plenty of room, an accirate shot will be needed to find the heart of the green.
  • Hole 6 ( 4 par, 326 metres) ;
    With its tees at the highest point. on the course, a pause to view the Taurus Mountains to the north is recommended. With a blind tee shot the line is all important here. The drive needs to be towards the left-hand pines in the distance. This is a real shot maker`s hole and requires a well hit seconds to an elevated green amongst the stone pines.
  • Hole 7 (4 par, 353 metres) ;
    A long drive over the ridge is needed here to set up a long iron shot to a large undulating green guarded on the left by a tall pine, and on the right by a deep bunker. The toughest par 4 on the course.
  • Hole 8 ( 4 par, 353 metres) ;
    A long drive just left of the big pinetree will set you up for this tricky aproach. Be bold to attack this pin, but aware the bunker and lake to the left.
  • Hole 9 ( 4 par, 382 metres) ;
    Playing almost due north this hole can be either with or against the prevailing wind depending on the time of the day. A drive to the ridge accross the fairway is needed to provide a good sight of the green set in front of the clubhouse. Mounding down both sides of the second half of the fairway guides the golfer into well-protected, slightly elevated, two tiered green.
  • Hole 10 ( 4 par, 335 metres) ;
    The second mine starts with a drive back into the pine forest. Beware, the wind will almost certain be oppposite to the 9th. A slightly raised plateau green surrounded by dense pine trees awaits an accurate second shot.
  • Hole 11 ( 3 par, 148 metres) ;In the thick of the forest this hole demands an accurate tee shot. Anything left or rigth will leave you scratching for par.
  • Hole 12 ( 5 par, 452 metres) ;
    An iron off the tee here could well be a wise choice, as good position short of the canal sets up a second shot into a wide fairway. A broad amphitheater of trees provides a lovely backdrop to this large, well-bunkered green.
  • Hole 13 ( 4 par, 373 metres) ;
    Driving back over the canal, this hole is tight demanding accuracy off the tee. Your drive should be aomed ot the slight mounds to the rigth hand side of the fairway down to the green, as does the lake on the left. The green is well defended being almost surrounded by bunkers rigth and back, with water to the left, right and rear of the green.
  • Hole 14 ( 4 par, 404 metres) ;
    A fine driving hole from elevated tees, a position centre of the fairway will favour those who can carry the second bank. The support mounding defines the fairway down to the green, as does the lake on th left. The green is well defended being almost surrounded by bunkers rigth and back, with water to the left. But just look at those mountains behind.
  • Hole 15 ( 5 par, 476 metres) ;
    Drive to the rigth of the big leaning tree, and a safety played second over the hill set up an easy approach to this narrow,tricky green.
  • Hole 16 (3 par, 166 metres) ;T
    he longest of the short holes, deep in the forest this hole has a generous green. There is a large bunker to the rigth of the green and another part way back on th left.
  • Hole 17 ( 4 par, 359 metres) ;
    This is a difficult dog leg rigth hole with a tree lined fairway. The turn point is indicated by two trees in the fairway area. For long hitters a drive with fade will give an advantage. The left side approach is protected by a magnificient stone pine tree. However the green is generous with three large terrances.
  • Hole 18 ( 4 par, 337 metres) ;
    The drive on the closing hole is framed by two spectacular stone pines. A single target bunker on the lake suggests the perfect line to set up the shot to the home green. With the back drop of the clubhouse and its lake this is indeed a memorable finish to your round
